Gunmen on Thursday night killed the Olukoro of Koro, a traditional ruler in Kwara State, Oba Segun Aremu.
The monarch was reportedly shot dead in his palace by some unknown gunmen, who also whisked away his wife and two others.
The development is coming days after gunmen killed two monarchs in Ekiti State.
On Monday, gunmen killed two Ekiti monarchs – the Onimojo of Imojo, Oba Olatunde Olusola, and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba Babatunde Ogunsakin, while the Alara of Ara Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, narrowly escaped.
The traditional rulers were returning from a security meeting in Kogi State when they ran into an ambush mounted by the kidnappers who were operating on the highway between Ipao and Oke Ako in the Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State
Reacting to the incident, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq while reacting, condemned the killing of Olukoro of Koro, describing the ugly incident as reckless, shocking, and abominable.
In a statement by the Governors Chief Press Secretary, charged the security agencies not to spare any resources to track down the perpetrators, free the spouse and others taken away, and bring them to book.
“We will certainly get the perpetrators and ensure that this is their last crime against humanity.
“My profound condolences go to the people of Koro. Our hearts are broken, and we stand by them at this time and always.”
