Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has disclosed that the state will soon begin the recruitment of health workers to fill the vacancies in the health facilities.
The governor noted that he was aware of the attrition of health workers in the state, promising to address the issue soon.
Adeleke said even though the country’s economic situation may pose a challenge, he would continue to embark on interventions that would bring development to the state.
He made this known in Osogbo, Osun State capital, at the flag-off ceremony of the Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week.
The governor who was represented by the Commissioner For Health, Barr Jola Akintola, encouraged mothers to bring their children out and take part in the exercise.
He noted that the essence of the exercise is to improve the coverage of maternal and child health indices through improved immunisation, Vitamin A and screening of malnourished children.
He applauded the state health workers and development partners for their support in helping the state government achieve one of its five-point agendas.
“We are not oblivious to the fact that there is high attrition of health workers, most especially, in all our health facilities across the state. By the special grace of God, our administration will soon begin recruitment of health workers to these facilities.
“It is also worthy of note to mention that our government has implemented 100% hazard allowances for our health workers as approved by the federal government.
“Though the current economic situation in the country may pose a challenge, but we will not be deterred to pursue with determination, forthrightness and sense of purpose, any program or intervention that will bring development to our people.
“The focus of this MNCHW is to improve the coverage of maternal and child health indices through improved immunisation, Vitamin A, uptake of iron-folate by our pregnant women, uptake of modern contraception by women of childbearing age, HIV testing and screening of malnourished children.
“I want to encourage all mothers to bring out their children to receive these lifesaving interventions at the designated health facilities and outreach centres. The exercise is free of charge and it is for the benefit of our children who are the future of the state.”
