Osun State Commissioner for Health, Mr Jola Akintola, has harped on the need for creation of an inclusive environment where women can access comprehensive reproductive healthcare services.
Akintola, who spoke in Osogbo during an event commemorating International Women’s Day, emphasized the invaluable roles women play in society.
The Commissioner also noted the Ademola Adeleke administration’s “commitment to protecting women’s health,” adding that the state government specifically included cervical and breast cancer screenings in the Imole Free Medical Outreach program of the government for the benefit of women.
He said, “I want to emphasize the significance of International Women’s Day which is celebrated on 8th of March every year as a global platform to empower women and uphold gender equality.
“The celebration is relevant to creating an inclusive environment where women can access comprehensive reproductive healthcare services.
“We must also take cognisance of the theme of this celebration which is ‘Inspire Inclusion,’ which calls for actions promoting diversity, equity, and inclusivity, particularly in healthcare delivery.”
A statement by the information officer of the State Ministry of Health, Segilola Babalola, obtained in Osogbo on Friday, noted that the State Family Planning Program Manager, Ololade Abatan, while speaking, emphasized the need for more women inclusion in issues relating family planning programs and other health related activities.
