Ex-Osun State Deputy Governor, Prince Adesuyi Haastrup, has declared intention to contest the stool of Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, left vacant by the late Oba Adekunle Aromolaran.

Haastrup, who was the deputy to the first Osun State Governor, Alhaji Isiaka Adeleke, an elder brother to the incumbent governor of Osun, was in office between January, 1992 and November, 1993, when the third republic was aborted.

An indigene of Ilesa, Haastrup has been rather quiet on Osun political scene, even though insinuations have been going round since the passage of the immediate past Owa-Obokun, about him succeeding Oba Aromolaran, due to his closeness to the family of the state governor.

However, the 76-year old business man, in an eligibility form of Owa Ajimoko Haastrup Royal Family dated October 23, 2024, has formally made known his intention to vie for Owa stool.

Also attached to the form was a document containing Haastrup’s various contributions to human and infrastructural development in Ilesa and adjoining communities, in demonstration of his love for the people.

According to the document, Haastrup has contributed to school Infrastructure improvement for the children of Moroko, by carrying out repair work and roof replacements for the Community primary school buildings.

“These enhancements aim to create a safer and more conducive space for education, benefiting the local population.

“To address water scarcity, we established three boreholes in the communities of Moroko, llususi, and Isiriyun. This initiative significantly improves access to clean water, promoting better health and quality of life for residents.

“We created job opportunities for several residents of Ilesha, Osun State, contributing to the local economy and supporting families in the community.

“Our community initiatives in Ilaje, Isiriyun, llususi, Moroko, and Ijana reflect our ongoing commitment to supporting local development in Ilesha, Osun State. By improving infrastructure and access to essential services, we aim to empower community members and foster sustainable growth.

“We renovated and graded the roads in Ilaje, Isirjyun, Ijana, and Moroko in Ilesha, Osun State, to improve transportation. These enhancements significantly increase accessibility and support local economic activities, allowing community members to engage in commerce more effectively.

“I contributed N10 million to the Ijesha Geriatric Centre by the ROOT CLUB. I always contribute generously at every welfare project being handled by the Ijesha society with Prof. Oni as the President,” the document containing Haastrup contributions to his community partly read.

When contacted on Sunday to seek confirmation of his eligibility, Haastrup simply said, “It is true.”

He added, “In addition to the form, you must have seen the documents containing part of what I have contributed to the family and the Ijesaland in general. I need everyone’s support on this journey.”
