Members of the All Progressives Congress in Osun are worried over the party’s lack of campaign activities for the 2023 general election, Osun Daily gathered.
The members who were not pleased with the low pace of activities also frowned at the absence of the immediate past governor, Gboyega Oyetola, who is the Osun Coordinator for Tinubu/ Shettima campaign council in the state a few months before the election.
Some of the members who spoke with Osun Daily, noted that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party had already commenced its campaigns, adding that the situation might lead to further loss in the coming elections if not urgently looked into.
Osun Daily gathered that Oyetola left the state before the new governor, Adeleke was sworn in and recently went for the lesser hajj (Umrah) with sources saying he is likely to be back in the state very soon.
A member of the party in Ayedire Local Government, Abidemi Olawale, said the lack of campaign activities is worrisome, saying the party members are already getting tired.
Olawale noted that Oyetola who ought to lead the campaign for the presidential candidate of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was not in the state, adding that the party has no direction as of now.
According to him, “the presidential candidate of the PDP has already come to the state to campaign and other candidates of the party are also doing their campaigns.
“The PDP already have the advantage because of the state governor and they are not joking with their campaigns.
“If care is not taken, we are going to lose a lot of seats in the general election. The most unfortunate thing is that Oyetola who ought to be leading the campaign is not in the state”.
Another member of the party in Osogbo Local Government, Olamide Jimoh while speaking about the situation said the party leaders needed to come out and take the bull by the horn.
Jimoh said some candidates of the party in the general election are already doing campaigns on their own, adding that it was not a good omen for the party.
“Look at SRJ for instance, he is already doing his campaign without waiting for anyone which is not that good. Most of the candidates in the election are yet to start their campaign which is a bit worrisome”.
In his view, Olatunji Kazeem, said the party is yet to start its campaign because of who to lead it.
According to him, the minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbosola should be the one leading the party campaign, adding that failure to do so might lead to another failure in the coming election.
“We’ve seen all what Oyetola can offer. If the party is serious about winning the next elections, they should go and bring Ogbeni Aregbesola to come and campaign for our candidates. He is the only one who can deliver for us”.
A chieftain of the party who pleaded anonymity however allay the fear of the members, saying the party will soon commence its campaign.
The party chieftain said efforts are in top gear to make sure the that APC wins all the Assembly sear as well as the presidential seat.
