The Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, yesterday appointed the Director-General of his campaign, Ajibola Famurewa, as the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
The appointment, it was learnt took some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress aback as the party had anointed the former permanent secretary of the board, Fatai Kolawole who had indicated interest in the position.
Turning down the party’s favourite, Oyetola opted for Famurewa who headed his Ilerioluwa Campaign Organisation.
Famurewa , it was gathered was assured of a federal government appointment as compensation for his lost at the poll after ensuring the incumbent governor emerged winner at the gubernatorial election but was yet to get one and was hoping to end the long wait the State Universal Basic Education Board by occupying the topmost seat of the board.
Famurewa, a former two-term lawmaker at the house of representatives lost the Osun East senatorial position in 2019 to senator Francis Fadahunsi of the People’s Democratic Party.
His appointment and others take immediate effect.
Others on the board appointed by Oyetola are: Moshood Adekunle Oluawo, Commissioner, Technical; a former State lawmaker, Amos Akindiya, Commissioner, Services; Ayo Olajolo, member representing Osun East Senatorial District, and Rafiu Olaide Fatoki, member representing Osun West Senatorial District.
The governor further said is in line with his government’s commitment to deliver qualitative basic education to her people.
