Two arrianged for possession of arms, cultism

Two suspects: Afeez Adigun, 30, and Ademola Akeem, 21, were arraigned before Magistrate Adebola Ajanaku of the Osun state magistrate sitting in Osogbo for unlawfully possession of gun and belonging to a cult group.

The defendants were arraigned on five-count bordering on conspiracy, unlawful possession of gun, charms, cultism and causing breach of peace.

The police prosecutor, Fatoba Temitope said that the crime was committed on the 29th day of October, 2019, at about 10:00hrs at Osogbo.

He said that the accused were members of the Eiye confraternity and unlawful engaging in fight in a public place which caused breach of peace.

He stated that the offences were contrary to and is punishable under sections 516, 64(a)(b), 213(a)(b), 249(d) of the criminal code cap 34 vol11 laws of Osun state of Nigeria, 2002″.
He added that also contravened section 4, 27(1)(b)(i), 8, 27(1)(b)(ii) of the firearms Act Cap F.28 laws of the federation of Nigeria, 2004″.

When the charge was read the accuse persons pleaded not guilty.

The counsel to the accused I.A Durosomo, while applying for their bail assured the court that his clients were ready to stand their trial .

However, Fatoba opposed the bail on the grounds that the defendants are terrorising public peace.

He also explained that the the first accused person Afeez Adigun is an ex convict with the nickname “terror”, and got back from prison around May.

Durosomo responding the prosecutor’s described the statements as mere speculations.

Ajanaku in her ruling admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000 each and two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned to the 18th of December, 2019.
