The Special Adviser on Tourism to Osun State Governor, Hon Victor Anjorin (Omitogun) on Wednesday, said the state has implemented programs that empowered local communities to actively participate in tourism activities for economic and social benefits.
This was as he called for partnership in the promotion and showcasing of the numerous tourist sites in Osun the the global world.
Omitogun made this known while speaking during the celebration of this year’s World Tourism Day held at the palace of Owaloko of Iloko Ijesa.
The Special Adviser noted that the state has embarked on infrastructural development which includes road networks, and recreational facilities to harness the potential of tourism in the state.
He said, “Our state is blessed with an abundance of historical and cultural sites, such as the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove is not only a testament to our ancestry but also a symbol of environmental preservation.
“In addition to the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Groove, we have the historic Ife Museum, which houses an impressive collection of artefacts that tell the story of the ancient Ife civilization. The Museum provides a window into our past and serves as a valuable educational resource for our present and future generations.
“To fully harness the potential of tourism in Osun State, the government has taken significant steps to develop and promote the sector.
“We have invested in infrastructure development, including road networks, hotels, and recreational facilities, to enhance accessibility and provide world-class amenities to our visitors.
“We have also collaborated with private sector stakeholders to create Innovative tourism products and experiences that cater to the diverse interests of our guests.
“Additionally, we recognize the importance of community engagement in sustainable tourism development. We have implemented programs that empower local communities to actively participate in tourism activities, ensuring that they benefit economically and socially from the sector.
“Let us work together to showcase the unique beauty and cultural diversity of our state to the world. Let us harness the power of tourism to create employment opportunities, alleviate poverty, and contribute to the overall growth and prosperity of our people.”
