There was tension on Wednesday at the popular Nelson Mandela Freedom Park, Osogbo, as suspected hoodlums claiming to be working for those in power, entered a guest house and attacked guest, a situation which led to panic in the area.
The development, Osun Daily, gathered led to the early closure of shops in the area.
Speaking with the medium, one of the victims who prefer Anonymity, said the hoodlums invaded the area around 5 p.m. and beat up people, boasting that they were in government now.
The victim who was a political appointee during the past administration said it took the intervention of one of the thugs who recognised him, before they allowed him to go.
He however frowned at the situation, saying the rate of lawlessness has increased since the Peoples Democratic Party took over the administration of the state.
He appealed to security agencies to be on alert to forestall the breakdown of law and order.
The former commissioner for environment who is in charge of the park, Sola Oladepo, reported the matter at Dugbe Police Station.
In her own words, one of the shop owners, Mrs. Adeola Ojo told the medium that the situation lead to the early closure of shops in the area.
She added that shop owners were scared of losing their goods, appealing to the government and security agencies to look into it.
“The situation was not friendly at all. I was at my shop when the hoodlums came and started harassing and beating people. They were shouting ‘Awa Lawa Ni Joba’ meaning ‘We are in power’. I and other shops owner had to close our shops early”. She said.
