The lawmaker representing Osun West, Senator Lere Oyewumi has facilitated the training of 90 of his constituents in liquid soap, toilet disinfectant and air freshener making.
Oyewumi, who is Deputy Senate Minority Leader, also empowered the trainees with N100,000 each as start-up capital.
The lawmaker also flagged off the distribution of 3,000 fertilisers for farmers across the local governments in the Senatorial District.
Speaking during the event held in Ikire, headquarters of Irewole Local Government on Friday, Mr Olalere Ogungbade, a Senior Legislative Aide to the senator, said the empowerment was part of the lawmaker’s desire to empower his constituents with businesses for self-sustainability.
He noted that the participants were selected across Senatorial Districts, urging the beneficiaries to make proper use of the money.
Ogungbade said: “Today, we are here to empower 90 constituents through training. They have been trained on how to produce soap, air freshener and Hysa.

“The participants are more than 100, and they were selected across the Osun West Senatorial District. This training and empowerment will, no doubt, assist our people, and I want to urge the beneficiaries to make use of what they learnt here today.
“All we want from our people is to keep supporting Senator Oyewumi, our amiable governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke and the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State.”
Speaking on the fertilisers and sprayers which are set to be distributed to farmers, Ogungbade said the gesture would boost the farmers’ yield and improve food security.
The legislative aide also said Senator Oyewumi has flagged off the rehabilitation of the Ikire-Oluponna-Iwo road.
