Engineer Seyi the People’s Democratic (PDP) has emerged the winner in the just concluded Governorship in Oyo State.
Seyi Makinde polled 515,621 votes to defeat APC candidate A debayo Adelabu who polled 357,982
The PDP is coming back to power in pace setter state eight years after the party was sacked by the then Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) which produced the incumbent Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi whose second term in office will lapse May 29, 2019.
Seyi Makinde who won 28 out of 33 local governments while the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Adebayo Adelabu who won in six local governments.
There have been an alignment and realignment with the political parties in Oyo State after the presidential and national assemnly election held two weeks ago.
While PDP governorship candidate received the support of African Democratic Congress (ADP), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) whose candidates stepped down barely a week before the election while APC counterparts, Adebayo Adelabu received the support of ADP Guber candidate, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala who also shelved his ambition to support Adelabu, the APC flagbearer.
Speaking after the presentation of results by the local government collation officers, Oyo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Mutiu Agboke thanked the representatives of political parties, the su josecurity personnel, INEC officials and journalists and other categories of people who supported The INEC before, during and after The election.
Presenting the number of votes polled by eavh political party, the Returning Officer, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe who is the Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos, said, the PDP candidate recorded 515,621votes while APC candidate, Chief Adebayo Adelabu scored 357,982 votes.
