The People’s Democratic Party’s candidate in the Oyo South Senatorial District Dr Muhammed Kola Balogun has halted Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s bid to represent the senatorial district in the Senate.
Governor Ajimobi was the flagbearer of the APC for Oyo South Senatorial District and he had represented the district from 2003 to 2007.
Ajimobi popularly called Constituted Authority is the only Governor to be re-elected in the state for the second time and thereafter christened himself as “koseleri” meaning it has never happened.
Governor Abiola Ajimobi lost to Dr Balogun, a former Commissioner for Commerce during the administration of Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala.
Dr Balogun had defected to APC before he moved to ADC and consequently returned to his original party, PDP, at the eve of electioneering last year.
The Senator-elect, Dr Muhammed Kola Balogun polled 105,720 votes, Governor Abiola Ajimobi had 92,218 votes, the current Senator from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rilwan Soji Akanbi polled 49,437 votes while Honourable Temitope Olatoye popularly called Sugar of Action Democratic Party had 13,149 votes.
Returning Officer for Oyo South, Professor Wole Akinsola from Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan, at Ibadan North Local Government which served as the collation centre, declared the PDP candidate, Kola Balogun the winner having polled the highest number of votes cast.
