Gunmen numbering about seven have been allegedly sighted around some villages in Osun, a situation that has caused panic among habitat of the area.
According to sources, the gunmen were sighted in some forests in Gbongan, Tonkere, Ede, and Kuta communities.
They were suspected to have been behind the kidnapping of two Baptist members in Kuta/Ileogbo, Idi Araba village in Iwo
It would be recalled that some gunmen recently abducted two persons, Samuel Oladotun and Fashola Tobiloba while returning from a farm at Ileogbo, headquarters of Ayedire local government area of the state.
It was gathered that the victims along with seven others were returning from the farm on Wednesday evening when their vehicle, a bus, was attacked by the gunmen around Oke-Osun area of the town.
They were released after the payment of 10 million naira ransom to their abductors.
Speaking with the medium, a resident of Tonkere village, Abiodun Familuyi, disclosed that the unknown men have been sighted in the bush, adding that the village head had been notified of the situation.
“I was coming from my farm on Wednesday when I noticed some strange people numbering about seven. I didn’t challenge them since I was the only one.
“On getting home, I called some youths in the community and told them what I saw. One of the youths also said he has seen something like that recently.
“We move to the house of our community head to tell him what we saw and since, we have been vigilant but we are scared to go to our farms”.
Corroborating Familuyi, a resident of Gbongon, the headquarters of Aiyedaade local government of the state, Funsho Adekunbi, said some people have been roaming around farms in the town.
He noted that the security architecture of the area was not encouraging, urging the security agencies to look into the matter before it leads to another kidnapping.
Adekunbi also appealed to the state government to be proactive in protecting the residents.
