Barely six days to the end of the Senator Abiola Ajimobi government, workers in Oyo state on Thursday issued a 24-hour strike notice to paralyze government business and activities.
In a two-page statement signed by the Secretaries of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Mohammed Ibrahim and that of the Joint Negotiating Council, Lukman Balogun, the workers demanded immediate payment of arrears of 7-month salary owed some local government workers and Health workers (JOHESU)
In an interview, State NLC Chairman, Bayo Titilola-Sodo said that the Unions can no longer fold her arms to the irresponsible attitudes of governments’ treatment of workers as slaves
According to him, the workers are requesting the payment of at least one month promotion arrears to the striking primary school teachers and upgrade of security at the state hospital, Adeoyo to avert breakdown of industrial peace and harmony in the state.
The NLC boss also appealed to the Governing Board of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital to reinstate the sacked workers at the hospital and release letter of promotion up to 2016 as being enjoyed by other sectors in the state.
