The Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimoni has attributed the saidprevailing peaceful atmosphere in the State to the zero tolerance for crime by the present administration which culminated in the establishment of Oyo State Joint Security Patrol Squad code-named “Operation Burst” as well as the setting up of the Oyo State Security Trust Fund (OYSSTF)
The Governor made the declation today at the Securuty Summit held with security chiefs and heads of bank in the state.
The summit was organised to intimate with the stakeholders in the security matters of the state so as way to forestall banknrobbery attacks which were incessantly witnessed in the neighbouring States in recent times.
Governor Abiola Ajimobi who was represented by his deputy, Chief Moses Alake-Adeyemiomaintained that since the inception of his administration, there had not been any case of successful armed robbery in the state. He however noted that the government is anticipatory and proactive in order to prevent the trends in the neighbouring states.
“This meeting has been convened in reaction to an observation of a noticeable increase in the activities of criminals in neighbouring States, especially attacks on our banks. In line with these observations, the State Government believes that an anticipatory approach is needed to counter/forestall any such happenings in Oyo State. It is with pride that I can inform you that there has been no successful armed robbery incident in any bank in Oyo State since our assumption and we are intent on keeping the status quo.”
The Governor also disclosed that the CCTVs are now operational in the black spots of the as well as business districts of Ibadan.
The Governor disclosed that the state Government will continue to support the security agencies in the state to achieve their primary functions in realisation that where there is peace, there will be development.
The Governor appealed to the participants at the stakeholder meeting to support the government especially during the festive period and upcoming general elections.
In his address the Chairman Oyo State Security Trust Fund, Chief Adebayo Adelabu said it is imperative for the stakeholders in the security to come together and forestall the operations of the men of underworld.
Chief Adelabu who spoke though the Executive Secretary of the Trust Fund, Mr Femi Oyedipe enjoined all the stakejolders to support the scheme to achieve security of lives and property of the people.
Earlier in his addressm the Special Adviser to Governor Ajimobi on security, Mr Segun Bolarinwa said there are an array of crimes such as cultish, thuggery which do not attract attention like bank robbery adding that the happenings in the neighbouring states called for proactive measures to prevent the hoodlums from invading the state.
Mr Bolarinwa said a number of vehicles were purchased for the security teams of Oyo State.
He noted that security is not the government’s responsibility alone adding that the institutions such as banks should continually contribute towards ensuring the security.
Mr Bolarinwa asserted that the bedrock of any development is security calling on all a and sundry to support the state government in combating crimes in the society.
The security stakeholders meeting was attended by the commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abiodun Odude, representative of the GOC of 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Airfirce, Nigerian Customsm NSCDC and Bank chiefs in the state.
