Niyi Akande, Osogbo.
Some residents of Osun state on Monday stormed Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Osogbo to protest against rerun election slated for Thursday.
Because the front of the INEC office was heavily guided by the security operatives, the protesters held the protest directly opposite INEC office.
The protesters, who blocked one lane of Osogbo/Gbongan express way during the protest that lasted several minutes, caused traffic gridlock on the road.
Speak to newmen on behalf of others, Comrade Adisa Adebayo, said they decided to storm the street to protest declaration of Osun poll as inconclusive.
He said: “We have already seen the PDP candidate leading with 353 votes, yet he was not declared. In Ekiti, some election results were cancelled, but INEC went on to announce Fayemi, even in Kogi State. What we want is our mandate in Osun state.”
Commenting in the same vein, another participant in the protest,a Ridwan Abimbola, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene on the issue.
He said: “We must not have it this bad in this country, to the extent we can’t trust the electoral body. The needful must be done. The should give the mandate to whom the mandate belong.
