The Osun State Government in conjunction with the Humanity Family Foundation for Peace and Development (HUFFPED), on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, inaugurated the Child Protection Committees in Osogbo and Olorunda Local Government areas of the state.
Speaking during the inauguration held at the Olorunda Local Government Secretariat, Igbona, the state Health Promotion Officer, Mrs Bukola Oyelere disclosed that the committees will serve as a conduit for advocating child protection and reporting abuse incidents.
Oyelere said the event was also to create awareness and advocate for the significance of the Human Papillomavirus vaccine (HPVV).
She noted that the inauguration was aimed at eradicating child abuse, particularly the distressing issue of molestation against young girls, adding that immediate actions during emergencies will be taken.
Oyelere assured members of the public that the state Health Promotion unit is committed to active participation in programmes aimed at achieving various health initiatives.
The Project Manager for Humanity Family Foundation for Peace and Development (HUFFPED), Fatimah Ajani while speaking with participants at the programme said the organisation was committed to safeguarding the well-being of children.
According to her, the preservation of every child’s right in terms of education, health, and freedom from any form of abuse or maltreatment was the core mission of HUFFPED.
She noted that the organisation was ready to partner with government agencies, ministries, health institutions and law enforcement agencies in making sure children’s rights are protected.
In her words, the Health Promotion Officer for Olorunda Local Government who was simply identified as Mrs Adeeyo, urged the community to promote awareness about the Human Papillomavirus vaccines, adding that the virus has the potential to significantly reduce cervical cancer-related deaths.
The HPVV campaign according to her is scheduled to hold from September 25 to 29, 2023 with the vaccines available at healthcare facilities and designated locations.
