African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Osun Central Senatorial District in the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections, Olubiyi Fadeyi has rejected the result as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Fadeyi, in a statement issued by his media office in Osogbo, cited cases of open vote-buying by the agents of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party and ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)).
The statement reads: ‘Violence, voter intimidation and harassment formed basis for my call for the cancellation of the results of the poll.
“Some staffers of INEC and security agencies strangely collaborated with those buying votes and compromised the entire process.”
He added that the entire process of the election should be cancelled and a fresh one ordered, if INEC would be fair to him and others that suffered as a result of the manipulations that characterised the poll .
“With the support of the people that I had enjoying, coasting home to victory was sure, if the process had not been manipulated.
“INEC also failed in her responsibility of monitoring spendings which is against the law that stipulates budget limit for elections.
“This has been a major impediment for people with ideas, but without deep pocket to participate in politics. The situation on ground in the country presents opportunity to buy votes for politicians with deep pocket,” Fadeyi said.
He subsequently called for the cancellation of the poll in the Senatorial District and enjoined his supporters to remain calm, while he seeks redress.
He also assured that despite the setback, all empowerment programm he initiated would continue even with more vigor.
