The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has praised the Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Joseph Toriola, and the residents for their commitment to maintaining peace in the community, which has fostered steady development over the past 20 years.
Oba Ladoja made the remarks during the grand finale of the 40th Akoraye Day celebrations—an annual event aimed at raising funds for community initiatives and projects—at the weekend.
In his address, delivered in Yoruba, Oba Ladoja recounted a previous visit he received from the Ogunsua and a delegation from Modakeke, who highlighted the historical ties between Ibadan and Modakeke.
“I promised to attend Akoraye Day, and I am happy to fulfill that promise,” he stated. He noted the historic tensions that plagued the area, emphasising how the cessation of conflict underlines the Ogunsua’s commitment to peace, which is vital for progress.
Noting that Modakeke’s development is largely due to community cooperation towards common goals, the Olubadan said “There can’t be progress in an atmosphere filled with unrest.”
The Olubadan said Governor Ademola Adeleke has acknowledged the community’s needs, hoping that the governor will respond as soon as possible.
The Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Joseph Toriola, emphasised the importance of dedication among the indigenes, attributing the community’s growth to their engagement and advice. He encouraged residents to remain focused on raising Modakeke’s status among other communities in Osun State.

Governor Adeleke, who also attended the event alongside the wife of the Alaafin of Oyo, Ayaba Abiwumi Owoade, reassured the people of Modakeke that his administration would prioritise infrastructural development in the town.
He commended the community for maintaining peace and announced that his government had approved construction projects, including the Famia Road and the 2-kilometre Celestial/Ajape roads, which are already completed.
The Modakeke community had reached out to the Osun State Government for assistance in fixing several inner roads, which are in disrepair and adversely affect social, cultural, and commercial activities.
Prince Tunmbi Toriola, chairman of the 40th Akoraye Day planning committee, highlighted the community’s goal to raise N1 billion for various development projects during this year’s celebrations, aimed at addressing ongoing infrastructural challenges in Modakeke.
