The National Task Force on School Fees Increment (NANS-SFIT) of the National Association of Nigerian Students NANS, South West zone, has condemn the increment in school fees of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti.
The body in a statement signed by Wándé Àjà yà and Adejuwon Olatunji, Chairman and secretary, NANS task force on school fee increment respectively, a copy obtained by Osun Daily on Thursday, said the tuition of the state-owned University was increased from around ₦100,000 and ₦150,000 to at least between ₦350,000 and ₦750,000.
“The increment, which we regard is in bad faith, is aimed at pilling more untoward pressure on the already battered students of the institution considering the present state of the Nigerian economy. It is highly ignoble to test the will and might of already frustrated set of students who already are paying through the nose for the current fees. One wonders why they are hell bent on taking education away from the reach of the common man”.
The body appeal to the Ekiti State Governor to reverse the increment, warning that failure to do so might lead to protest by the students.
“We are appealing to the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji and the management of the school led by Prof. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Edward Olanipekun to immediately reverse the ungodly increment while they still can before Nigerian students, across the country, are relocated to Ado-Ekiti.
In line with the mandate bestowed on this committee by the NANS National Executive Council, we are giving the school management 48 hours to reverse the increment to status quo. A stitch in time, they says, saves nine”.
