The former Managing Director of the defunct, Monitor Newspaper, Dr Liad Tella and consultant psychiatrist, Dr Adeoye Oyewole are set to address journalists in Osun State on mental health stress management.
The workshop, organised by the final year students of the Department of Mass Communication, Fountain University, Osogbo, Osun State is tagged, “Effect of poor stress management among Nigeria journalists on their mental health, productivity” will also attract academia.
Speaking with the Team Lead of the programme, Mr Bola Bamigbola on Saturday, he disclosed that the mental health of journalists is an often-over-looked phenomenon, noting that “stress is very much considered part and parcel of the profession or as a default state of newsroom culture.”
Bamigbola explained that “Nocturnal schedules, tight deadlines and potentially dangerous reporting environments can be typical ingredients of a career in journalism. The normalization of such working conditions can lead to mental health problems for journalists.
“These are the reasons why we considered a-day workshop for journalists to discuss about stress management. This will help them in the course of their practice. Over 50 journalists will be attending the programme from different media organizations across the country on Monday, 15th 2023 on the school premises.”
