As Nigeria joins other countries in other parts of the world to mark the International Labour’s Day today,a senatorial candidate in Osun West Senatorial District during the last general election,Omooba Dotun Babayemi has called on employers of labour nationwide to always treat work and working people with reverence and respect, and attach significance to the leading role of workers in the country.
According to Omooba Babayemi,honoring model workers and exemplary individuals from around the country today is aimed at promoting the value of work and celebrate the great character of the country’s working class.
While extending his May day greetings to workers in Osun West Senatorial District in particular, Osun State in general and Nigeria as a whole,Omooba Babayemi observed that history has entrusted all and sundry with a great and arduous mission where the effort to build a moderately prosperous,strong, democratic and culturally advanced society, ultimately depends on hard work.
He opined that both employers and employees must remain committed to upholding the spirit of model workers and promoting the value of work, so as to gather an enormous positive force for the development of Nigerian economy and society.
While noting the hardworking and inventive spirit of Osun workers coupled with their Omoluabi ethos which is responsible for the glorious achievements of our past, he called on them to be steadfast in their efforts to move the state and the country forward.
He added that In a country such as ours all work, be it manual or intellectual, and all creativity, be it individual or collective, deserve to be respected and encouraged.
And as such, under no circumstance should anyone, at any time, look down on workers or attempt to gain a free ride
