A 40 year old man, Sulaiman Wasiu was on Wednesday, arraigned before a magistrate court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State capital, for allegedly stealing a prepaid meter belonging to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).
Police prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Fagboyinbo Abiodun, told the court that the stolen prepaid meter was valued at N100,000.
Wasiu was arraigned in a three counts charge of felony, unlawful damage and stealing.
The defendants however pleaded not guilty to the counts.
According to the charge sheet obtained by Osun Daily, Wasiu committed the offence on December 10, 2022, at prime area, Osogbo.
The charge sheet reads:”COUNT I: That you Sulaiman Wasiu ‘M’ and others at large on the 19th day of May 2023 at about
12.05 pm at Omobolanle area Osogbo in the Osogbo Magisterial District did conspire together to commit felony to wit malicious damage and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 516 of the criminal code CAP 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State Nigeria 2002.
“COUNT II:-That you Sulaiman Wasiu ‘M’ and others at large on the same day, time and place
in the aforementioned Magisterial District did willfully damage prepaid IBEDC meter property of IBEDC and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 451 of the Criminal Code CAP 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun state Nigeria 2002.
“COUNT III: That you Sulaiman Wasiu ‘M’ and others at large on the 10th day of December 2022 at prime area Osogbo did steal one prepaid meter value at one hundred thousand naira
(#100,000.00k) Property of IBEDC and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 390(9) of the Criminal Code CAP 34 Vol. Il Laws of Osun state Nigeria”.
Magistrate M.A Olatunji admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 and one surety.
The case was adjourned to June 28, 2023.
