Iwo Progressive Group (IPG) has recognised an indigene of the town, Engineer Taoheed Alamu, with an award of excellence service to humanity.
Engr Alamu is a software developer, web designer, and IT expert.
Speaking during the programme held recently in Iwo, the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, represented by the commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Sunday Oroniyi, commended Alamu for his passion for youth development through sports and academics.
Oroniyi said part of the efforts of the awardee included the ongoing construction of a standard football stadium at the Sharia College Iwo.
He appealed to people in the town to live in harmony, adding that greater achievements could only be recorded in a peaceful atmosphere.
Oroniyi commended the IPG for their efforts in fostering development in the town, acknowledging them for recognising individuals who have tirelessly worked toward the development of Iwo through their awards programme and scholarships to deserving students.
He said, “When we say we want governor in Iwo now, there is a way we can do it and there is a way we can achieve it through plan because somebody cannot just come from London or USA bring money to Iwo saying, he wants to build, there are structures on the ground, so let us sit down and I think.
“IPG is a veritable tool to achieve this; if we want to do it, we can do it. Please let IPG build the road map for our generations to come, and I believe if we do it, it will be better for Iwo land.”

Also speaking, the guest lecturer, Dr. Lekan Asifat, said, “Politics is also not meant to eradicate integrity and love for one another. Politicians who destroy and betray each other do so because they lack the ethics of politics and its true meaning.
“The fact that someone loses an election should not make such a person develop hatred and bitterness towards political opponents. A true politician should constantly allow ethics in politics to guide his words and actions. The essence of politics is to promote one another, enhance development in our society, promote peace and unity, and motivate one another to higher heights generally.”
Earlier in his welcome address, the president of IPG, Agbaakin Tayo Giwa, commended the state government for working both in terms of infrastructural development and general welfare of the populace.
He also appealed to the governor to upgrade the ongoing Iwo-Osogbo road into a dual carriageway.
Meanwhile, other sons and daughters of the town, which includes Dr. Daniel, Are, my Laosebikan, Pastor (Mrs.) Fatima Aduke Obelawo, Iwo Action Council, Chief Muniru Adisa Gbegunde,Chief Adekolapo Muslim Adebayo, Engr. Sabitu Owolabi Folorunso Ajao and Senator Adeleke Adeyemo Oriolowo were equally honoured with awards by the group.
The high point of the 2024 IPG day was the presentation of cash prizes to the three best overall winners of the essay competition among senior secondary school students in Iwo local government, presentation of scholarship awards to three indigent students of the local government council origin in various tertiary institutions and conferment of the group Award of excellence in Iwo sons and daughters as well as Iwo action council dignitaries.
