Not less than 150 elderly residents of Okinni town in Egbedore Local Government of Osun State, on Tuesday, benefited from a free medical checkup and food packs donated by a non-governmental organisation, Gbadebo Mayowa Foundation.
Speaking during the event, the founder of the organisation, Mayowa Gbadebo, said the outreach was to ensure that the elderly people live a healthy life and celebrate the festive season in good mood.
Gbadebo emphasised that the government cannot solve all social and medical challenges of her citizenry, adding that her self-commitment towards humanity was to support the Osun State Government.
She said, “Today, we are here to reach out to over 150 aged people Okinni community. We are going to do a medical checkup for them and also give them foodstuffs for the festive season.
“A lot of people are dying due to inadequate medical attention and more people are living with various diseases without knowledge. We know the government cannot do it alone, that is why we are also supporting in our own little way.
“We have rice, tomatoes and spaghetti to be given to the beneficiaries just for them to be happy. I believe drug would not work well if there is no food to eat. That is why we are giving out drugs and food.
“Over time, we’ve reached out to orphanages, people on the street, community schools and hospitals to help people who are in need.”
