Dr. Nuru Yakubu led Presidential Visitation Panel to the Federal Polytechnic, Ede had visited the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal in his palace to seek royal blessings and advice as its undertake audit of the institution.
The panel members, led on the courtesy call by the Rector of the institution, Dr. John Adekolawole and other top management staff, had sought royal blessings and advice of the royal father.
Speaking further during the visit, Dr. Yakubu, commended Oba Lawal and Ede community for taking ownership of the polytechnic and working hard to keep the institution safe.
Yakubu explained that the panel was in Ede to carry out comprehensive audit of the institution, adding that Mr. President, by tradition must institute panel to visit all Federal Government schools every five years to carry out audit.
On the security breaches around tertiary institutions, Yakubu said, “the issue of insecurity is not only affecting tertiary institution, it has affected every sector of the country. The government needs to sit with all the major stakeholders to really address this issue.
“In tertiary institutions, the administration should sit with all the stakeholders -the students, academic staff, the community in particular to discuss it. The community where the institution is located must take ownership, they must identify with it and feel it.”
Speaking earlier, the Rector, Dr. Adekolawole, said the panel was in Timi’s palace to seek royal blessings before it would commence work in recognition of the important role the host community occupies in the life of the institution.
Oba Lawal, while responding, recalled his years of working as a lecturer in Osun State Polytechnic and stated his readiness to assist the panel whenever such is required in the cause of its assignment.
