Some residents of Ilupeju 2 zone 6 and 7 in Osogbo on Tuesday stormed the osun state house of assembly complex to express their grievances over the deplorable state of major roads in their area.
The protesters majorly elders in the communities, bore placards with various inscriptions like : ” Mr governor help us, our Road is becoming worst; The condition of our road is worst, our road is not motorable among others.
Speaking with newsmen, the Ojomu of Osogbo land, Chief Olalere Ewelayo said recently some officials of the state government had been coming to inspect the roads but nothing has been done about it.
He stated that the road has caused perennial hardship to residents of the communities.
He said, ” You will pity us if you come to our area. It is as if we have been forgotten. The roads in our communities linking many parts of the area together are very bad.
” Officials of the ministry of works and transport have severally visited the communities to inspect and wrote reports on the roads but we are yet to find succor from their actions. This has caused hardship to residents of the communities. “
The chairman of zone 7 , Elders David Ajao appealed to the governor to see to the constructions of these roads.
This, he said would bring reprieve the residents of the communities.
Addressing the protesters, the speaker osun state house of assembly, Mr. Timothy Owoeye assured the protesters that the roads would be incorporated into the 2020 budget.
He added that the house would set up an ad-hoc committee to assess the conditions and size of those roads.
He said, ” The administration of Oyetola is committed to the well-being of it citizens. His administration has embarked on rehabilitation of roads in the state and Osogbo being a strong hold of the party will not be left out.
“We would ensure that the road is incorporated into the 2020 budget to ensure it is rehabilitated. We would also constitute an ad-hoc committee for on the spot assessment of the road today. “
