Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has cautioned members of the fourth estate of the realm to be wary of desperate politicians who are hell bent to win elections even if they do not have all it takes to lead.
The Governor also advised journalists to be wary of Greek gift-carrying politicians in the country who are ready to pay journalists to get away with unscrupulous acts.
Governor Ajimobi was speaking as the special guest of honour at the 2018 Oyo NUJ Correspondent Press Week Chapel held at Ago Tapa, Mokola Ibadan.
Governor Ajimobi who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr Akin Oyedele said the present administration held the NUJ correspondents in high esteem assuring them of good working relationship even as the present administration is winding down.
Mr Oyedele who was in the company of another SA to the Givernor, Mr Wale Sadiq enjoined journalists to be fair, and objective in their reportage especially as 2019 general elections draw near.
Mr Oyedele also advised journalists to earn people’s respect through their dressing, conduct and carriage as professionals
In his speech, the Chairman Oyo State Council of the NUJ, Mr Adewumi Faniran charged government to always accord respect and recognition to the journalists.
Mr Faniran said the importance of journalists to the society earned them the title, “fourth estate of the realm” and as such government should not, under whatever guise, demean the Nobel professionals.
Mr Faniran however charged journalists to uphold the prprinciples of accuracy, objectivity and professionalism.
In his speech, the Chairman, Oyo State Correspondents’ Chapel of NUJ, Mr Ola Ajayi said the press week was organised to showcase the vintage position and relevance of the NUM correspondents to the society.
