Following several attacks on members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ila local government area of Osun state by suspected political thugs of the All Progressive Party (APC), the leadership of the PDP has appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Director of the State Security Device, the Civil Defence and other security operatives to come to their aid ahead of Saturday elections.
A statement jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the PDP in the Council area, Alhaji Ganiyu Olaitan and Mr Diran Ayanbanji alleged that some political thugs loyal to the APC have made life unbearable for them to live in Ila-Orangun township and it’s environs.
They lamented that hundreds of members of the PDP have been brutalised, maimed, injured and assaulted severally in the last two weeks.
The release explained further that members of the party are now living under fear and apprehension.
They claimed that about 27 members of the party living at Isedo and Oke-Ede areas of the town were attacked with dangerous weapons and wounded severely on Wednesday night and were still admitted in various hospitals in the State.
The PDP members alleged that when the horrible situation was reported at Divisional Police Station Ila, no assistance was given which deepened the crisis.
“We are calling on the Inspector General of Police to direct the state Commissioner of police and other security operatives to prevent further arrest of our law abiding citizens on a cooked up allegations.
“The attacks on our members is a ploy to disfranchise several PDP members and supporters in the federal constituency during the Saturday elections.
“We are strongly appealing to the Inspector General of Police to bail us out of the bondage of the APC touts and some hired operatives”, the release stated,” the release concluded.
