The University of Ibadan Chapter of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday notified the Vice Chancellor, Professor Idowu Olayinka of the commencement of academic Strike nationwide.
A letter written by the Chairman of the Union Dr Deji Omole to VC indicated that during the strike, lecturers will not participate in teaching, supervision, statutory and adhoc meetings.
According to the ASUU boss, the strike was sequel to the disappointment expressed by the National Executive Council (NEC) Meeting of the Union that no progress has been made on the implementation of 2009 ASUU/FG agreements, MOUs/MOA and the truncation of the renegotiation of agreements.
Ridwan Kolawole reports that the leadership of ASUU, University of Ibadan will meet later today while members will be briefed at a Congress of the Union slated for Tuesday (tomorrow).
ASUU had, early last monthm conscientised members of the public on the failure of the Federal Government to honour its agreement over the years.
ASUU said then that if it commenced strike, members of the public and concerned stakeholders should place blame on the government at the centre.
ASUU called on the federal government to know that the union is not particular about increment in salary but about good infrastructure and improved research of the ivory tower.
