Academic Activities were grounded tofay at the University of Ibadan following the strike declared by the academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
While lecturers stayed away from classes, students were seen in their Halls of Residence play table tennis and watching films.
Those not doing these but went around campus were confused on how long the strike would last to affect their stay on campus.
University of Ibadan is expected to start second semester examinations on the 26 of November 2018 but our man gathered lectures were still ongoing before the strike started.
Academics have withdrawn their services from teaching, supervision and attending statutory meetings.
At some faculties like Arts, Education, Agriculture and The Social Sciences, the lecture rooms were put under lock and key.
While some students were overheard asking the other why they were reading while ASUU was on strike, most faculties were ghost of their old self.
ASUU chairman UI, Dr Deji Omole while addresing the congress of the Union asked members to fight for the future of the Nigerian children being deliberately sidelined by the government.
He therefore inaugurated strike monitoring Committee headed by Professor Gbenga Olujide.
The congress was attended by close to 400 academics including the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Adeyinka Aderinto.
Meanwhile some Non-teaching staff stayed away from work at the premier university despite Labour Suspending their strike.
Our man gathered that this was due to the fact the majority already planned for the strike and got the suspension of the strike late to get to work.
This made administrative work to be grossly affected.
