……..As APC members frown at slow pace campaign
Ahead of the forthcoming March 18 House of Assembly elements in Osun State, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been campaigning intensely for all its candidates across the state constituencies.
The PDP who won with a landslide during the February 25, Presidential and National Assembly polls by winning all the 3 senatorial and 9 house of representatives seats were leaving no stone unturned.
The party, Osun Daily, gathered was aiming to have at least 24 members at the next Assembly to aid the good work the incumbent governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke is already doing.
Led by a former chairman of the party in the state, Hon. Sunday Bisi, the party had already taken its camping to almost all the Local Governments in the state, Osun Daily, reliably gathered.
The development, the medium, gathered has given candidates and party members a strong belief in coming out victorious in the election.
A member of the campaign team told the medium that people of the state have received them warmly in all the places visited.
The member added that he was optimistic that the people will vote for candidates of the party during the forthcoming poll.
According to him, “the good of Osun State has witnessed the difference between the present government and the immediate past one and will want to do anything to ensure the continuity of all the good works.
“Our digital Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has performed incredibly in the short time in office and he is ready to do more for the people of the state.
“The only thing we are appealing for is for our candidates to be voted for during the forthcoming election. Their presence in the house will go a long way in helping Mr Governor.
“Our incoming chairman, Honourable Sunday Bisi has led the campaign with topmost dedication and I know all the candidates appreciated him for the job well done. Bisi has shown he is truly a party man”.
Speaking the medium, a member of the party in Ifelodun Local Government, Isreal Abimbola, commended the leadership of the party for going out to campaign vigorously for candidates of the party.
Abimbola said going around has given the people of the state and party member a sense of belonging, adding that he expected the party to win at least 24 seats in the poll.
According to him, the February 25 presidential and national assembly elections have shown that residents of the state were in love with the party and the Governor.
He said, “I can just say Kudos to the leadership of our party. They’ve indeed shown that they mean well for the party and its candidates. In
“Imagine a ruling party working this much for its candidates. It shows that they respect the Osun people and we know their worth. I’m very happy with the way they are going about the campaign.
“My friends in the other party are complaining bitterly that their leaders are not doing much for their candidates and this alone is enough to commend Mr Sunday Bisi and his team. I’m certain of victory”.
APC members frown at low pace campaign
Meanwhile, members of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, have frowned at the low pace at which the campaign for candidates of the party in the coming election wa
s moving.
The medium gathered that, unlike the PDP, the APC had not been campaigning intensely for its assembled candidates, a situation that has led to members questioning the leadership of the party.
The members who spoke with Osun Daily, disclosed that the woeful performance of the part in the February 25th election has not taught their leaders any lesson.
According to them, part of the reason why they had a poor outing in the last elections was because of the lack of campaign support from the party leadership.
They added that the party’s National Assembly candidates were left to work mostly by themselves, a situation they said had led to further division within the party.
“It is very unfortunate that we have not learned anything from our poor show of shame in the last outing. How on earth will we lose all the 3 senatorial and 9 house of representative seats? It shows that our current leaders are not capable.
“And to think that they are still not ready to go out and canvass for votes is worrisome. The leaders are doing as if they don’t care and had already given up.
“Our past governor, Gboyega Oyetola is the only one who has gone around to canvass for votes for the candidates and how many Local Governments has he visited?
“There is already a sharp division within the party and it will take lots of efforts and prayers for us to come out with any honour in the coming election”.
In his words, Akeem Oladele, an APC member in Aiyedaade, said the absence of the minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, in Osun APC politics led to the poor showing of its candidates in the National Assembly elections.
According to Oladele, the former two-term governor of the state is the only one who has street credibility and can give the PDP people a run for their money.
He added that the governorship and national assembly polls result had shown that Aregbesola is indeed the heartbeat of Osun APC, calling on leaders of the party to find a way to mend things with the minister.
“What happened in the state in the past few months has clearly shown that Aregbesola is the heartbeat of Osun APC.
“He is the only one with street credibility in the current APC unless we want to continue deceiving ourselves. That is what our leaders are not ready to admit but the result is there for everyone to see.
“I just pity all the candidates who have spent a lot on the elections because the party left them orphans who had to fend for themselves”.
