Press Statement

POLY STUDENTS DID NOT AMBUSH GOVERNOR ADELEKE

Our attention has been drawn to a piece of misleading and fake news on a blog, “Osun Daily”, stating that Governor Ademola Adeleke was ambushed by students of Osun state College of Technology Esa Oke. We will like to state categorically that the news is not only fake but also written and shared to mislead and misinform the good people of Osun state.

The actual state of things is that Governor Ademola Adeleke was not ambushed. It will be erroneous and myopic to think that a Governor that is massively loved by the people of the state will be ambushed by students who voted for him.

The Governor addressed the protesting students and promised them that as his children, all their requests would be granted. He then directed the Deputy Governor and the Secretary to the State Government to meet the students and the management of the school unfailingly on Monday to ensure that the matter was laid to rest.

These students were happy, cleared the road for his excellency and hailed him severally, chanting “Imole, Imole, Imole”.

Later in the day, on the instruction of His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke, the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi and Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye, met with the students and school management where conclusions were reached on the student’s request which included Campus road construction, classroom electrification, Tax Clearance for registration and school fees.

The good people of Osun state are hereby advised to henceforth disregard any news from “Osun Daily” as it has chosen to become a tool to be used against the government.

Signed:

Mallam Olawale Rasheed,

Spokesperson to the Executive Governor

The governor of Osun State Senator Ademola Adeleke, yesterday, escaped being ambushed by students of Osun State College of Technology, Esa Oke, who were protesting the increment in their tuition fee.

The polytechnic students who had earlier stormed the government secretariat, demanding a reduction in their tuition fee, went to the Local Government service commissioner hall to stage a protest.

However, the hall was already prepared for the governor to carry out the swearing-in ceremony of the new judges in the state.

Upon sighting the protesting students, some police operatives working with Adeleke read the situation very well and stop the governor from coming to the venue.

The Secretary to the State Government, Hon Teslim Igbalaye, later met with the students and ensured that they left after promising that the government will look into the issue.

It was after they left the area that Adeleke came down to perform the swearing-in ceremony.
