The Osun State Police Command has reportedly arrested two suspected thugs, Kabiru Opeyemi, Popularly Known As ‘Mankind’ and Alogbija Ibrahim, Popularly Known As ‘IB TT’ for allegedly disrupting an election in Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
The duo was arrested following a petition submitted to the State Commissioner of Police by the Public Relations Officer for the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone D, Comrade Bamigboye Peter.
Bamigbayo in his petition accused the duo of disrupting the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology election in the institution.
Furthermore, he revealed that the disruption from the suspects escalated when a female political candidate rejected their demands, leading them to introduce an alternative candidate from their purporting paramilitary group which subsequently led to chaos compromising the electoral process.
The petition reads in full: “I, Bamigboye Peter Oluwadamilola, serving in the capacity of PRO NANS Southwest, Zone D, urgently petition your esteemed office regarding the security situation at Osun State Polytechnic Iree. The recent incident surrounding the election for the faculty of Information Communication and Technology (FICT) on November 24 demands immediate attention.
“The intrusion of individuals, purporting to be paramilitary personnel, particularly AlogbijA Ibrahim (IB TT), Kabiru Opeyemi(Mankind), Agali and others, disrupted the otherwise peaceful electoral process. This disruption escalated when a courageous female candidate rejected their demands, leading them to introduce an alternative candidate from their paramilitary group. Subsequently, chaos ensued, compromising the integrity of the electoral process.
“The activities of these intruders have not only violated the sanctity of our academic institution but have also created an atmosphere of fear and intimidation. Despite clear prohibitions against paramilitary operations within the institution, these individuals operate with audacity, putting at risk the safety of students who resist their influence.
“In light of the above, I implore your immediate intervention to:
“1. Conduct a thorough investigation into the unauthorized presence and disruptive activities of AlogbijA Ibrahim (IB TT), Kabiru Opeyemi (Mankind), and Agali others on the campus.
2. Facilitate the immediate expulsion of these individuals and their paramilitary faction from the institution to restore a sense of safety.
3. Implement enhanced security measures to shield vulnerable students from potential reprisals for refusing to conform to the illicit agenda of these intruders.
4. Collaborate with the institution’s management to enforce and strengthen the prohibition of paramilitary activities within the campus premises.
5. Summon all students who were subjected to threats during the concluded FICT election, ensuring their safety and providing a platform for them to share their experiences.
“Our academic community is at a crossroads, and decisive action is imperative to restore normalcy. Your intervention will not only secure the safety of our students but also send a clear message that such unlawful activities will not be tolerated within the educational environment.
“In anticipation of your prompt attention to this matter, I remain committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our academic community.”
