An Osun state High Court has ordered the release of three Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), chieftains arrested on Monday in Osogbo.
While statement issued by the All Progressives Congress (APC), said the trio of Alhaji Fatai Oyedele Diekola, Alhaji Adekilekun Segun and Alhaji Sikiru Lawal, were arrested in Alekuwodo area of Osogbo for buying voters’ card.
The PDP said Diekola and others were in Alekuwodo area to canvass for votes ahead of the rerun governorship election holding in the area on Thursday.
Independent sources in the area though said the were alarmed by a mob that attacked three people, and wounded two of them, but sources in Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), said it was Diekola that called the state commandant of the corps, saying he was attacked by hoodlums.
A source in the Corps also told our correspondent that when those deployed arrived the scene of the attack, “they met mob action and the men rescued three people and took two of them to the Police Clinic in Oke Fia and got them treated. The third person was handed over to the police”.
But Justice A. O. Ayoola of the state High Court, according to court process obtained by our correspondent on Wednesday in Osogbo, ordered the release of a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and his two aides.
The trio had approached the court with a Motion Exparte, asking the court to order their release from police detention.
Ruling on the Motion Exparte, Justice Ayoola, granted the prayer of the applicants and ordered the police to release them immediately.
