Ila Orangun community has appealed to the Inspector General of Police for adequate security in the area before general election.
The community stated this at a press conference addressed by the leadership of Ila Elders Consultative Forum and Body of Concerned Friends of Ila Orangun.
The chairman of the forum, Pa Gabriel Ajiboye, said the town had witnessed incessant clashes and called for extra security for the residents.
Ajiboye said, “For sometime now, there have been information and report of gun shooting in the area which resulted in people being injured.
“There have been further report of likely disturbances between now and the election time next Saturday.
“In other to seek peace between the two rival main parties, the two groups that we represent here decided to invite stakeholders from the two parties.
“The stakeholders of one of the parties came, while the other party did not send representatives. We spoke to the representatives of PDP and appealed to them to maintain peace.
“We will very much like to speak to the other party representatives and because they have not turned up, we want to use this opportunity to appeal to them to also maintain peace.
“It is our right to participate in the election. So we are appealing to everybody to keep calm and make sure elections hold in the three local government of the area.”
Ajiboye said all the community asked for is for the parties to maintain peace, because there have been reports that election may not be allowed to hold in the area.
