The sale of seized food items to Nigerians has been suspended by the Nigeria Customs Service.
It was gathered the suspension was due to the stampede that claimed lives at Nigeria Customs Service Old Zonal Headquarters in Yaba, Lagos State, on Friday.
Customs had on February 20, 2024, said it would dispose of seized food items to cushion the hardship in the country.
However, the medium learnt that at least, seven people including a member of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Comfort Adebanjo.
The spokesperson for Customs, Abdullahi Maiwada, in a statement on Monday said the suspension would help them to properly articulate more robust and comprehensive action.
“Considering the recent unfortunate event, we regrettably announce the suspension of this exercise until we establish what transpired on Friday, 23 February 2024.
“This should help us to properly articulate more robust and comprehensive action that will not defeat the noble intention,” the statement partly reads.
