The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilesa, Professor Taiwo Asaolu, has charged the staff of the university to redouble their efforts towards achieving the 2026 goal of the institution.

Asaolu equally promised the university management commitment to staff welfare and growth of the school, noting that the management has set out to achieve its 2026 targets.

The VC stated this on Monday while addressing the staff of the university after an inter-religious prayer session to start the new year.

Speaking on the achievements recorded in 2025, Asaolu said the university added 30 new programmes with the addition of the College of Health Sciences and some faculties.

He also said the university obtained full NUC accreditation for 23 programmes, adding that the school is awaiting the result for other programmes.

He said, “Addition of 30 programmes thereby taking our programmes to a total of 97. The College of Health Science was established. The Faculty of Agriculture. The Faculty of STL and the Faculty of Public Health were established.

“The University obtained full NUC accreditation for 23 UNILESA programmes. Results for more programmes are being awaited. The population of our students increased to over 12.000,

“Mr Governor magnanimously approved the conversion of Ilesa General Hospital to UNILESA Teaching Hospital. More buildings were renovated, many more under renovation.”

On the welfare of staff, the Vice Chancellor said, “The university management has sustained the subsidised staff bus scheme, payment of the hazard allowance to staff and several staff enjoyed sponsorship to conferences, higher
degrees, IBR, etc.

“Staff who have biological children continue to enjoy discounted
school fees i.e. 50%. Office equipment such as furniture items, electronic items is
regularly being provided to staff to make the work environment

“The issue of the Staff Club is being looked into. By the grace of God, it
will be up and running this year. The University is up-to-date in the payment of salaries of the Visiting
Lecturers, Contract Staff, etc.”

Asaolu, however, frowned at the attitude of some staff toward work, urging them to turn a new leaf or face sanctions.

The Vice Chancellor said the university has approved a staff Code of Conduct which would improve the working ethics of the staff and ensure the continued growth of the institution.

“The management is doing everything to ensure improved staff welfare. However, some of our staff’s attitudes to work are not encouraging. We need to change and have a positive mindset this year. Any staff found not doing their job will face sanctions,” Asaolu stated.

Highlighting some of the projects earmarked for 2026, the Vice Chancellor said the management would renovate some abandoned buildings in the school and complete all ongoing TETFund projects.

He also said the management would “upgrade infrastructures at UNILESA Teaching Hospital, construct a new school gate with bus stops, renovate the sports centre and ensure NUC accreditation for programmes that are due”.
